World Series Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting extended clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51M viewers across the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It additionally is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various tongues.
